Principal Distinctions
During their long history the companies that now constitute the Mota-Engil Group have been awarded a significant number of prizes and distinctions of various kinds.

The awards received bear witness to recognition by the market and by the various stakeholders of the excellent quality of the services provided by the Group companies, of its contribution to the Portuguese economy and of the projection of the image of Portuguese companies throughout the world.
2011

PORTUGAL


Mota-Engil Engenharia is the Best Building Company – according to the edition of the  Construir 2011 Awards, the company is the best in its area at national level. Carlos Pascoal, Assistant to the Board of Mota-Engil Engenharia, received the award at the gala which took place at the Oceans Auditorium at the Lisbon Casino, on 11th July. Trade Leaders' Club Awards Prize to Mota-Engil Pavimentações - The company received the “New Millennium Award” for Best Brand Image in its industry sector and geographical area, and it was also awarded the “Gold Medal for Business Excellence” to highlight and reward the work performed. The ceremony was held at Hotel Meliá Castilla, in Madrid, and the awards were received by MEPAVI’s representative, Vitor Pais, from the International Award Selection Committee. Business authorities, diplomatic representatives from the participating countries, and well-known companies from 40 countries were present at this event.

MALAWI

Mota-Engil Engenharia Malawi receives Certificate from the Government - On 28 April, Mota-Engil Engenharia Malawi received a Certificate from the Government of Malawi, for having applied the Best Practices in Occupational Safety and Health, during the  2009/2010 end_of_the_skype_highlighting period. Yunus Mussa, Minister of Labour, presented the award to the Manager for the Safety Area, Humberto Silva, who particularly deserved this acknowledgement due to all the improvement and changes implemented in this branch. Twenty companies were nominated for the award and it was an honor to comprise this elite group. The key to success in all processes lies on the safety and health of all employees of Mota-Engil Engenharia Malawi.

POLAND

Eagle Award – Mota-Engil Central Europe was awarded on 23 October the first prize in the contest “Eagles of the Polish Construction Industry” in the General Contractor category. The award was delivered to Pawel Ludwig, Director of the Marketing, Public Relations, Communication and Administration Division. This event was organised by the Supreme Council of the Trade and Services Association NRZHiU), by the Mazowsze Trade, Industry and Services Association (MZHPiU) and by Europa 2000 Consulting Sp. Z.o.o..

Fajny Dom Wins "Construction of the Year 2009 - The residential Project, in Cracow, was awarded the first place in its category. The project price was over 90 million PLN (about €22.8 million). The prize was given to the project developers, Mota-Engil Real Estate Management and its partner ESTIA, as well as to general constructor Mota-Engil Central Europe. For the last 20 years, Polish Association of Civil Engineers has been organizing this National Contest, with the co-operation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Office of Building Control. Fajny Dom Residential Complex consists of 914 apartments, underground garages, 2 green recreational areas and 1200 m2 of commercial area. The first construction phase, with 378 residential units, 6 commercial units (total area of 560 m2) and park with playing ground has already been completed. The project is being executed in a 65,000 m2 plot of land. Buildings will occupy only 24% of the area therefore, the project will be very attractive in terms of available space and green area. Even though it is located close to the city infrastructure, it is a quite place with beautiful green surroundings. More than 200 customers, mostly young families, have already purchased their apartments proving that Fajny Dom is a success.

PORTUGAL

Dolce Vita Tejo voted Best Enterprise of 2010 - The Dolce Vita Tejo Shopping Mall, built by the joint-venture led by Mota-Engil Engenharia received the Best Enterprise of 2010 award, as part of the event organized by Revista Imobiliária. More than 16 projects participated in this edition of the contest, in the following categories: Residential buildings, Offices, Tourism and Shopping areas; Dolce Vita Tejo was included as part of this last category. "It's a great project and it stands for the best European practices, in this case, those coming from Portugal, highlighted Artur Soutinho, Director of Charmartín, project developer. The Ancoradouro Building is also worth some praise as it was the most voted by the magazine readers. Maria Paula Mota, director of Mota-Engil Real Estate received the award "Imobiliária's Readers' Choice".

Electromechanics Department at Mota-Engil receives honorable mention from REN - The Electromechanics Department of Mota-Engil Engenharia was distinguished with an Honorable Mention from the National Electric Network (REN) for the safety management implemented during the construction of Very High Tension substations. This Honorable Mention, known as "Meritorious Safety Management at the Construction Works of the VHT Lines and Substations", was awarded on 16 April during the 5th Technical Session of REN, that focused on "Safety Planning and Implementation at Construction Sites", in Sacavém.

2009

POLAND


Mota-Engil Polska won the Eagle of Polish Construction Industry – the third edition of the contest “Eagles of the Polish Construction Industry” distinguished Mota-Engil Polska with the first place in the Engineering, Road, Energy and Railway Infrastructure category. This award, which was delivered to Pawel Ludwig, Marketing and Communication Director of Mota-Engil Polska, is a strong evidence of the Company's reliability and professionalism. With over 100 participants, this gala was held on 14 November, at the Gromada Hotel, in Warsaw. Organized by the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan and Europa 2000 Consulting Sp. z o.o., with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Infrastructure, this event has the purpose of selecting  those companies that create modern, safe and competitive construction.

Construction 2008 - Mota-Engil Polska won the prize in the category “Public Administration Building”, which was delivered to the Justin Center - a building that houses a hotel, business areas and stores in Warsaw. The two representatives of the company, Jacek Skarupa (Manager of Works) and Kazimierz Szewczyk (Manager of Marketing), received the prize. The goal of this event, that was held on 26 June, in Warsaw, is to select the best constructions and the most up-to-date solutions in Poland. Another objective of this contest is to boost investors and contractors.

SPAIN

European Steel Design Awards Gala –
the Leixões Drawbridge, designed by Mota-Engil Engenharia, in a consortium with CPTP and Martifer, was distinguished, on 17 September in Barcelona with the European Steel Design Awards for Portugal promoted by the Convention for Construction Steelwork – ECCS. Totalling €12.8 million, the Leixões Drawbridge, the fourth largest bridge of the type in the world features a 92-meter span and 1 300 tonnes of steel and was built in merely 10 months. The European Steel Design Awards are presented every two years and their objective is to distinguish the most advanced works in the area of steel structure constructions at European level.

PORTUGAL

Construir’08 Awards Gala - “Construction Company of the Year", "Globalization Award", “Sustainability Award”, and “Personality of the Year" were the awards received by the Mota-Engil brand in this event which completely filled the Oceanos Auditorium of the Lisbon Casino on 8 July. Jorge Coelho, the Group’s CEO was named the "Personality of the Year" in the Construction category, while Mar Shopping, built by Mota-Engil Engenharia, received the "Best Residential Building" award. More than 600 guests attended the award ceremony of this initiative promoted by Construir newspaper.

Mota-Engil Engenharia Electromechanics is the Best Contractor – For the first time in 25 years, the Mota-Engil Electromechanics Division (dating back to the former Gerco), reached, in December 2009, first place in the REN- National Electricity Network, in the class of General Electric Installation. This rating reflects the quality of each supplier and is based on the analysis of a set of elements, namely, the quality of the works and teams, supplies and supplier management and the quality of commercial proposals.Best Stand – the Mota-Engil Engenharia stand was considered the best at the 2000 edition of the Industry and Construction Fair, held between 8 and 12 October 2008 at the Madeira Tecnopolo, in the Island of Madeira. The prize presented by ASSICOM – Industry and Construction Association of Madeira was awarded on 19 January 2009 by Alberto João Jardim, President of this Autonomous Region.

2008

MALAWI


Accident-free workplace – Mota-Engil Engenharia was distinguished by Paladin with the certificate of 500 000 hours of work without accidents at the Kayelekera Uranium Mine. The unique ceremony took place on 21 April and seven days later the number of hours without accidents doubled. Later, in the same category and at the same workplace it was once again presented with a certificate for one million and a half hours without accidents. This number of international significance projects ME Engenharia to a position of great visibility within this type of market.

PERU

Largest Safe Company - Translei was considered, at the Antamina mine, the “Largest Safe Company” during the month of February. Even though this company registers the highest number of employees, it was able to maintain the safety standards and thus reduce risk.Excellence in Safety – Translei was awarded with Mapfre Peru for the 3rd consecutive years. Led by the corporate manager for the safety and environment area, Edward Lescano, the company has strongly focused on the continuous improvement of safety management and on the application of its preventive nature.

POLAND

2nd Architecture Contest – Mota-Engil Polska came first in this contest organised by the Governor of Stalowa Wola. The work that won the award was the Stalowa Wola bridge, built 2006.Mota-Engil Polska wins the Polish Construction Eagle - Mota-Engil Polska was distinguished in a contest organised by Zwiazek Pracodawców Warszawy i Mazowsza and by Europa 2000 Consulting Sp. z o.o. The awards ceremony was held in Warsaw during the Grand Gala of the Government and businesses. ERNEST 2007 Award - Mota-Engil Polska was distinguished under the category Most Active association, by the Polish Association of Engineers and Transport Experts, which it integrates. The ceremony took place in Warsaw on 6 May 2008.

PORTUGAL

Students prefer Mota-Engil – According to a survey released in June this year carried out to final year students of Degrees in Economics and Management of the University of Oporto, ME Engenharia is the favourite company in the construction sector, dethroning Soares da Costa and Martifer who shared 2nd place and throwing Teixeira Duarte into 3rd place.ENR Distinction – After having participated in the photograph competition of this American engineering magazine, a photograph by Pedro Luís Silva, a skilled health and safety worker at Mota-Engil Engenharia, on the working conditions in a water trap (specially the human effort in welding), was distinguished as one of the best photographs by the jury.

2007

ANGOLA

1st place in the Global Management Challenge – The Sucursal team relegated to 2nd and 3rd place teams constituted by staff of Deloitte and Accenture, respectively.

POLAND

Construction of the year Contest - Mota-Engil Polska won the 2nd place (Construction of a viaduct in a road in Stalowa Wola) and two acknowledgement certificates (Reconstruction of Balicka Street in Krakow and the Reconstruction of the viaduct over the secondary passage of Sródmiejska in Krakow). Mota-Engil Engenharia was also presented with two second place awards (Construction of the A-2 highway: Konin – Kolo stretch (18,1 km) and Construction of the A-2 highway: Kolo – Dabie stretch (27,4 km).?CZECH REPUBLIC Best Façade 2006 – The magazine SPECTRA awarded Sefimota with the prize for the Best Façade with thermal insulation in Terasy Budovec. The project was completed in the Summer of 2006.

The Integrated Remote Equipment Management System (SIGRE) developed by the Mota-Engil Engenharia Equipment area, wins the first prise in the international “The IDC EMEA 2006 Award for ICT Innovation and Business” contest.

2005

The OPS Project, developed by the University of Porto Faculty of Engineering in partnership with Mota-Engil Engenharia, is distinguished with the BES Innovation Prize in the Industrial Process category.

2004

The “Prevent More, Liver Better at Work” prize – distinction in the "Good Practices" category in risk prevention in the construction industry, awarded within the scope of the National Prevention and Safety at Work Cay commemorations.

2002

INH 2002 Private Property Development prize awarded to the 48-hone development built at Milheirós, Maia.

Honorary Mention in the INH 2002 Private Property Development prize, awarded to the 156-home development put up at Quinta da Pala, in Vila Nova de Gaia.

2000

1st Civil Engineering Prize at the Hispano-American Architectural Biennale, for the construction of the Vasco da Gama Bridge.

1994

4th International “Puente de Alcântara” Prize – for the Best Engineering Work of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, for the construction of the Alto do Lindoso Dam.
